Musical Review: Love God, Love People by Israel Houghton

Israel Houghton - Love God, Love PeopleIsrael Houghton is at it again with another stellar release entitled LOVE GOD LOVE PEOPLE: THE LONDON SESSIONS, his eighth and most ambitious Inspirational album to date in fourteen prolific years. The studio-recorded album capitalizes on the legacy and mystique of one of the Western worlds best known recording studios – Abbey Road – a venue that hosted iconic recordings by the likes of The Beatles and Pink Floyd.

LOVE GOD LOVE PEOPLE is an artistic achievement for Israel, who manages to successfully interweave rich spiritual themes around clever musical arrangements and pop-heavy productions.  Israel Houghton drops any artistic inhibitions he may have had on LOVE GOD LOVE PEOPLE, as he pushes the proverbial envelope with unmistakable, Urban-inspired music that will catch the ear of mainstream music fans, perhaps at the expense of his core Christian audience.
The title track, Love God Love People and other selections like, You Won’t Let Go, Our God and Name Of Love are late night rhythms and club-ready releases for the after-hours saints. On additional songs like Love Rev and That’s Why I Love You, featuring Fred Hammond, Israel shows a deftness in his ability to merge both old and new Soul music with spirit and sanctity.  Israel is a wizard in the studio and a tactician as songwriter, always mixing and matching his catchy contemporary tunes with Sunday morning messages.
Additional standout tracks include the emphatic tune, Mercies, featuring Kirk Franklin, the melodic songs, Others & You Hold My World and the benediction to the album, Hosanna (Be Lifted Higher), a Praise & Worship anthem to cap off an album destined for acclaim. Israel Houghton continues to dig deep from a well of worthy music that overflows both in style and substance. His long lasting collaboration with award-winning producer Aaron Lindsey has ensured Israel’s status as one of Gospel music reigning A-List artists.
