Reaching veteran status, VaShawn Mitchell is set to release his 7th album, SECRET PLACE this fall. The innovative singer, worshipper, songwriter continues to inspire with music that compels listeners into the presence of God. Mitchell distinctively has the ability to create iconic moments through his music that brings listeners to a place of transformation.
SECRET PLACE was the groundbreaking live recording and concert which took place in Johannesburg, South Africa earlier this year…
“The last time I was here [South Africa], I heard God say to me the next sound is to be recorded here,” Mitchell shared. “So it was my intention not to just have another recording but add a forum for mentoring that will equip the next generation.”
In obedience to that direction Mitchell sponsored and hosted “The Call” – a conference established to equip a generation of worshippers regardless of ethnicity, gender or age. This pioneering conference brought together hundreds of worship leaders, artists, musicians and leaders from the United States and Africa for two days of intensive education and impartation.
SECRET PLACE was born out of this unique encounter seamlessly blending the power of both the South African and American worship experience. This extraordinary live recording concert was held at the famed Mosaic Teatro Fairbanks in Johannesburg. The concert incorporated the beauty, power and sounds of South Africa with a prominent sound of worship that has become Mitchell’s signature. The live atmosphere and energy from the South African audience reflected the globalization of Gospel music and unifying power of worship.
SECRET PLACE is deeply personal offering for Mitchell and displays expressive, passionate music that is timely and persuasive. The album’s first single, “Joy,” is a mid-tempo song that is as infectious as its name and is both declarative and profound. The entire project features an incorporation of South African and American singers and musicians including the brilliant Tasha Cobbs whose undeniable connection to the sound of worship can be heard on “Jesus Reigns.” Other notable moments include an appearance by Bebe Winans who joined Mitchell on the remix of his iconic hit “Nobody Greater” which will only be released in South Africa as a special gift from Mitchell to the people of his second home. The whole evening was capped off by a rousing collaboration between Mitchell and renowned Pastor, songwriter and South African worship artist Reverend Benjamin Dube on “Siyakudumisa,” which is translated as “There’s none like You.” This song unified the entire audience in an explosive multi-cultural worship experience that will remind every listener of the borderless power of music.
