As the award-winning prodigy on Genesis Entertainment, JB is rapidly elevating beyond measure and proving himself to be one of the most multi-gifted upcoming artists in modern Gospel music. From a background of many major influences such as jazz, classical, and gospel music, JB is expressing urban gospel in a manner that is definitely outside of the box. He has received numerous acclaims as an instrumentalist, writer, vocalist, engineer and producer. This is nothing shy of dynamic for this 24 year old wonder, which is named, “The New Voice in Gospel.”
JB, born Jonathan Brown, was raised in Savannah, GA, spent much of his life in church and school involved in choirs and bands to perfect his gift. His father, Apostle Freddie Brown Sr., taught him to play piano at an early age of five, alongside his two older siblings. He was then inspired to play other instruments by witnessing the powerful brass bands at his church, The United House of Prayer. As a teen, JB teamed up with local producer Darrell Parker of Godson Records and created music for independent artist in his town. His ability to play over ten instruments, arrange and produce music resulted in him being a true commodity. Performing on the piano, organ, guitar, drums, and all brass instruments are just previews of what JB can do. He also toured on weekends around the Southeast with several groups like the Savannah Arts Jazz Orchestra, various local church choirs and groups, the SAA Symphonic Orchestra and by himself. In this period JB developed as a compelling pianist, trombonist, singer and songwriter to be reckoned with. After graduating from the Savannah Arts Academy, he attended Clark Atlanta University. For a year under full music scholarship, he attended college, but his desire to achieve his lifelong dream was burning strong inside and he left school to seek a career in music.
Upon being in Atlanta, JB was offered to sign with a few local labels but felt that the resources and vision weren’t great enough for his destiny. Around this time he gained those resources and started Genesis Entertainment, an independent label based out of Atlanta, GA. He spent most of his time building his 2004 release “Restore Me” to gain attention to his music. While his album did not generate much spotlight, JB continued to build upon his desire. By doing so, he has been awarded by Billboard, Great American Song, SongOfTheYear.com, and Nashville Star Search to just to name a few, for his musical excellence.
Particularly JB's work has been viewed by many as fairly stunning, but he had only revealed one side of his music ability. He eventually began to branch out and compose arrangements for small films and engineer for other vocalist. More impressively, JB has written nearly two hundred songs in his career and has composed songs for several artists who are signed to record labels as well as those that are independent. His ability does however extend far beyond the pen.
Though many challenges, JB is said to become the most sought-after
writer, arranger, producer, instrumentalist, and vocalist in gospel music. He
has excelled greatly in music and his potential is even greater. Being a team
player with much discipline, maintaining an optimistic attitude, demonstrating a
down-to-earth personality and exemplifying a positive image have all played a
great part in his success. JB is nothing short of a phenomenon and his
humbleness reigns without arrogance surpassing it. In an era of mega-talented
youngsters, JB stands out from the rest. And if this all sounds too good to be
true, just remember, miracles always do.
