LISTEN & WIN
CONTEST WINNERS
(TYE TRIBBETT & GA)
PRIZE: "VICTORY: LIVE" CD & SONY WALKMAN MP3 BEAN PLAYERS
Brandon Edwards
(Warrensville Heights, Ohio) – CD
Winner
I love this
song! Victory is truly my anthem. I remember the first time I heard the
song, I was watching Bobby Jones Gospel on BET. Tye said that this song
would be off his new album Victory. Then, the next time I heard it, I was
in the car listening to 1490 WJMO. I loved every part of that song, from
the variety of keyboards to the lower brass accompaniment, to the vocal
arrangement.
I love the lyrics saying that in any situation I face, I'm going to win. No
matter was situation, whether its depression, sickness, death, or disease, I
have the victory. That song reminded me personally that the Devil is
defeated! So, I don't need to worry about what he may throw at me, I have
the Victory! I love that song and I can't wait to hear Tye Tribbett & GA's
new album because if all the songs are like this one, then that’s what I
need!

I can remember getting ready for church one Sunday morning and the station host stated that is was a Sunday morning exclusive. And when I heard the intro of the song, with me being a native and resident of DC, I knew this was a new gospel go-go song. I was so excited that DC was put back on the map for something so unique that we have. Then, when I sat and listen to the song, I could not sit anymore after the first verse.
The song had my whole house rocking, jumping and shaking. I love the song. I was going through some rough times before I heard this song and to know that I have the victory in my situation has blessed me tremendously. I thank God for Tye Tribbett and his ministry because he has shown the Youth of today that we can Praise God and still have fun in Jesus name. His first album "Life" was awesome and I know that is Victory Album will be # 1 on the charts for a long time.

I have 10 points of critique:
1. Love the use of brass is perfect for the victorious/triumphant theme of the song
2. Good mix of "swing" feel and "praise jam"
3. At first it was difficult to understand the lyrics "I thought I'd lost". I had to back track the 3rd and 4th lines to understand the 1stand 2nd lines.
4. The holding out of the word "out" (with harmonies) makes for a good opportunity for reflection and self-evaluation, when God has called us to come out of the situations we put ourselves in, so often.
5. Breaks in the music are very clean cut and sharp which adds emphasis and makes room for one to shout in victory.
6. I wish there were more harmonies when the men join the women in the verses for words like "triumph" and "overcome" in order to add more emphasis to this life that God has called us to.
7. Great music in the verses. At first, it seems like a dark situation but as we get further into the verse, the music becomes triumphant and victorious.
8. Good use of electric guitar…here and there...not overly emphasized
9. Use of "oh" at the end reminds me of a victory shout
10. Good use of all instruments for the consistent beat pattern.Keep allowing God's will and word to manifest on earth as it is in Heaven!

Well ... seeing how I've listened to the new single thousands of times in several different formats (NBG live bootleg, NBG Susie Owens mash-up, Bobby Jones performance, and radio edit) I think I'm able to give some honest feedback on the song.
Initially, I was so excited that Tye was coming out with something new that I really didn't care what it sounded like. I just needed more! However, I must say that I love the new sound that the song brings to radio. Being a resident of DC, I instantly recognized the "go-go" flavor that is indigenous to the DC area, a music form that hasn't really had such widespread national exposure. Maybe I'm a little biased but I feel that it's very different from any other musical offerings that you hear from the gospel world and I love it!
In addition to the music itself being Hot, the lyrics are awesome! Nothing gets me like a song with a good groove and some meaningful lyrics rather than simple screaming over a good track. Two thumbs up Tye!
As far disappointments (which are few), I first heard the song on Bobby Jones and was instantly hooked! The disappointment came when I heard the radio single and found out that a "live" version would not be included on the CD. The studio version sounds great but, in my humble opinion, does not possess the same raw energy, drive, and grittiness that you get with live performances. I understand that the studio offers the opportunity to perfect and clean up a song but I happen to be one that happens to like the imperfections that come with live recordings. Additionally, I feel a greater sense of freedom and a more direct connection with live recordings. Not to mention the "1-2" intro that they did on Bobby Jones, oh it just works so well!!!
Why the studio Tye? Why?!
That's pretty much my only complaint ... now for requests. Tyrone ...buddy ... If I happen to be selected as one of the winners of this contest, I simply ask that you keep the MP3 player and send me the CD!!! Additionally (you know I couldn't just leave it at one thing did you?), I need the live versions of Victory on my CD ... if I win. I need the NBG (nuthinbutgospel) live "bootleg" version, the NBG mash-up (Susie Owens is my Co-Pastor so I'm pressed to get this one legally), and the Bobby Jones version ripped onto CD.
I want to support my gospel artists and I'd be more than willing to pay extra for the additional tracks! Did I mention that I need these tracks? I know I'm asking a lot but "ask and ye shall receive", right? Anyhow, that's my seven cents. Bro. Tribbett, we love and appreciate you, man! Keep going after what God has purposed for you.
Be Blessed!

I believe that the song "Victory" is revolutionary because it pertains to every aspect of your life. There are so many songs out there now that only focus on certain things in life and the Black community. I feel that "Victory" calls us out of everything we, as a Black church and community can think of. I love the part when he says to, “come out of low self-esteem, lesbianism, homosexuality”.
These are issues that the Black community and church see a lot of but don't talk a lot about. I believe Tye Tribbett has made history by actually mentioning homosexuality and lesbianism in a gospel song. I'm happy about the song. When I hear that song, my stereo is turned up to the highest level. It's like releasing a proclamation in the atmosphere. Thank God!

I think the song Victory is the absolute bomb! I am one of the youth advisors at our church and this is just what the youth of today need! We claim that they are a lost generation, Generation X, but what they really need is for us to meet them right where the secular artist meet them, right where they are. Young people today just want to kick it and have a good time, and we need more artists like this singing the Word, bringing the beats and allowing them to see that they can be saved and still listen to good music.
Without music like this, we will have to compete with songs like, “Laffy Taffy”, “Some Cut” and “Grillz” all because they have a good beat. I would rather my children and our youth listen to good music teaching and singing about the Word of God. I love it! If we continue to do the same things that we have always done, we will never reach the lost or those that need to be found another way....through jammin’ Gospel music.
