The best-selling DMV-based urban ensemble, Anthony Brown & group therAPy, is releasing its third album, A Long Way From Sunday (Key of A/FairTrade/Tyscot), globally on July 28, 2017. The Grammy® Award nominated group will perform songs from the fourteen-track project during a special,  “A Long Way From Sunday:  The Live Experience,” all-star concert taking place at Washington, D.C.’s historic Warner Theatre at 8:00 PM on the same date as the release which features the Billboard Magazine Gospel Airplay Top Ten radio single, “Trust in You.”

It’s been two years since Brown’s sophomore album, Everyday Jesus, shook up the gospel music industry with the power anthem, “Worth,” which spent an amazing 24 weeks at No. 1 on Billboard’s Gospel Airplay chart while amassing over 12 million YouTube views and 4 million Spotify streams.  The album generated 10 Stellar Awards, as well as, Grammy, BET and Billboard Music Award nominations.

A Long Way From Sunday showcases Brown’s tasteful eclecticism that runs the gamut of retro Pop on “Glad,” trap music on “Lost”, smooth R&B on  “Miracle Worker,” and full-throated balladry on “It Had To Be You” or “Thank You.” The cameos include this millennium’s most popular gospel music missionaries such as Travis Greene, Jonathan McReynolds and Le’Andria Johnson. Throughout the audio proceedings, group therAPy’s rich and classically tuned vocals are pristine. They provide a perfect counterpoint to Brown’s soulfully husky baritone.

“A Long Way From Sunday: The Live Experience” takes place Friday, July 28, 2017 @ 8 PM at The Warner Theatre, 513 13th Street, N.W., Washington, D.C.  20004. Tickets range from $50-$75 and are available from Ticketmaster or the Warner Theatre Box Office.

Dr. Leonard S. Scott is a true pioneer in the gospel music world. He was one of the first recording artists to introduce praise and worship music into the black church community with signature songs such as “Lord, You Reign” and “The Pentecostal Praise Medley.” He’s also the co-founder of Tyscot Records, the oldest operating African-American gospel recording label in the world. Now, the Stellar Awards Gospel Music Academy has announced that Dr. Scott will be inducted into the Stellar Hall of Fame during the 32nd annual Stellar Gospel Music Awards that takes place Saturday, March 25, 2017 at The Orleans Arena in Las Vegas, NV.

The big news has Dr. Scott feeling good as his latest radio single, “Feel Good” from the album “Feel Good: Celebrating 40 Years of Life Changing Music” (Tyscot), would indicate.

“It is a great honor to be recognized by Don Jackson and the Stellar Awards for our accomplishments at Tyscot Music & Entertainment,” he says. “It is because of the faithfulness of our God and the diligence of our artists, label partners, industry affiliates and team that we have not only survived, but thrived through the past 40 years in what is often a very volatile enterprise. It is humbling to be able to promote a product that has potential to change lives for eternity’s sake. To be honored by the prestigious Stellar Awards only serves to increase our gratefulness. “

IN BILLBOARD MAGAZINE’S “YEAR IN MUSIC 2016 ISSUE

Tyscot Records enjoyed a big year in sales, streams and radio airplay as Billboard magazine tabulated the year’s hottest songs and artists in its annual “Year in Music 2016 Issue.  The Indianapolis, IN-based firm also celebrated its 40th anniversary as the oldest, still-operating, black gospel recording label in the world and ranked at No. 4 on Billboard’s Top Gospel Labels chart, up from No. 5 on last year’s survey.

Tyscot - Life Changing Music & EntertainmentTyscot Music, Tyscot’s ASCAP-affiliated publishing company, was the No. 2 “Hot Gospel Songs Publisher” of the year with a catalogue of classic gospel hits ranging from “Right Now Praise” by the New Life Community Choir ft. John P. Kee to “Not About Us” by Bishop Noel Jones & The City of Refuge Sanctuary Choir.

Tyscot’s resident hit makers, Anthony Brown & group therAPy, the dynamic group based in the suburbs of Washington, D.C., continued to make their hometown proud as their signature song “Worth” was No 1. on the “Gospel Digital Songs” sales chart for the year.  They appear on several other “Year in Music 2016” charts, including the “Top Gospel Artists – Duo/Group” of the year chart where they remained in the No. 1 slot for the second consecutive year. Even the group’s latest hit, “Bless the Lord,” had a nice showing. It was No. 16 on the “Gospel Airplay” chart and No. 28 on the “Hot Gospel Songs” chart for the year.  Their sophomore album, Everyday Jesus, was the No. 2 most popular set on the “Top Gospel Albums” of the year chart.

The group pioneered the fusion of R&B-styled rhythms with spiritual and message music themes in the 1970s. It’s a winning style that has won them fans as varied as American Idol’s Randy Jackson, Kirk Franklin, `80s rockers Huey Lewis & The News and Fred Hammond. The album’s first radio single “All Day Long” is a warm, uplifting song of praise set to a smooth and mellow R&B flavored groove with a Jazzy horn arrangement.  It climaxes in a crescendo of cymbals, drums, thick harmonies and Rance Allen’s lion-like roar of a wail.  The project features new songs such as the ballad “My Delight” (led by Steve Allen), the quartet-styled stomper ‘Hold On” and the soulful tune “Vessel” that is guaranteed to raise the heaviest of roofs.

The groups also dusts off some stellar B-sides from past albums and gives them new arrangements such as the old school soul of “Like A Good Neighbor” and the funk of  “I’m Not Givin’ Up Givin’ Out Givin’ Givin’ In” that is lead by Tom Allen. The group provides some dance-floor rhythms with songs such as “Got Me Dancin’,” “Can’t Give Up (The Groove)” and “Victory Dance.” The collection is rounded out with fan favorites such as the group’s signature songs  “Miracle Worker” and “Something About The Name Jesus.”

The Rance Allen Group was formed in 1965 in Monroe, MI as a self-contained band. In 1972, they signed to Stax Records’ Gospel Truth subsidiary where they recorded a series of gritty gospel songs that won them main-stage tours with R&B headliners such as Isaac Hayes and Barry White. They went on to record a number of gospel classics such as “You That I Trust,” Do Your Will” and “I Belong To You.” The group was honored with the BMI Trailblazer Award in 2008.

OLDEST EXISTING BLACK-OWNED GOSPEL MUSIC LABEL TYSCOT RECORDS
MARKS FOUR DECADES OF ROOF-RAISING INSPIRATIONAL SONGS ON
“FEEL GOOD! 40 YEARS OF LIFE CHANGING MUSIC” ALBUM
Featuring Kirk Franklin, John P. Kee, The Rance Allen Group, Deitrick Haddon, Casey J, Anthony Brown & group therAPy and One of Babyface’s First Productions

Indianapolis, IN: Tyscot Records, the oldest existing black-owned gospel recording label in the USA is celebrating its 40th anniversary with a fifteen-track compilation album of songs by some of the label’s biggest acts over the years. “Feel Good! 40 Years of Life Changing Music” (Tyscot Records) hits brick & mortar and digital music stores everywhere on April 29, 2016.

“Over the past 4 decades, we’ve had the opportunity to work with some of the finest artists in the gospel music industry and to produce some truly life changing music,” says Tyscot co-founder Dr. Leonard Scott. “I look forward to 40 more years of life changing music.”

In the early years, Tyscot introduced several popular church choirs including the Trinity Temple Full Gospel Mass Choir that featured a teenaged Kirk Franklin long before he hit it big with songs like “Stomp” and “Why We Sing.” The label eventually expanded its roster with future gospel superstars such as John P. Kee, Vashawn Mitchell and Deitrick Haddon.  This collection features those acts and even a vocal group named Deliverance that was produced by Indianapolis native Babyface prior to his big success as an R&B artist. This set also boasts tunes by gospel legends such as Rance Allen Group and Darwin Hobbs alongside Tyscot’s No.1 millennial-era singing discoveries Casey J and Anthony Brown & group therAPy.

Although, Tyscot is currently enjoying one of its most successful seasons ever with numerous gospel radio smashes (No. 3 behind RCA Inspiration and Motown Gospel according to Billboard Magazine for 2015), it hasn’t been a carefree ride to the top.

The company was born in 1976 when dentist Leonard Scott and Craig Tyson started the label for the sole purpose of releasing their church choir’s first album. Through the first decade, Tyscot’s sales were consistent but modest. After Scott’s then-19 year old son Bryant Scott took over the daily management of the company in 1988, the company eventually went from selling $50,000 worth of product a year to $2 million in billing a year thanks to young acts like John P. Kee.

Then, in 1993 Tyscot’s distributor Spectra abruptly filed for bankruptcy. Tyscot lost over a half of million dollars Spectra owed it as a result even though it had the No. 1 album in the country with “We Walk By Faith” by John P. Kee.  “We owed a lot of bills,” says Bryant Scott. He wanted to file bankruptcy but Dr. Scott said no. They worked out deals to pay everyone they owed. In a bind, Tyscot partnered with Zomba Music on John P. Kee’s  next album “Show Up!” and saw Kee’s album sales soar from an average of 75,000 units sold to over a half million. It’s been onward and upward ever since. The label has changed with the times. While it maintains best-selling traditional artists like the legendary Rance Allen Group (that experienced a career resurgence after signing with the label in 2002), Tyscot currently has three of the hottest millennial acts such as Casey J, Bri (Briana Babineaux) and Anthony Brown & group therAPy that spent 24 weeks at No. 1 on Billboard Magazine’s Gospel Airplay chart with their radio hit “Worth” in 2015.

TYSCOT RECORDS
RULES THREE BILLBOARD MAGAZINE CHARTS THIS WEEK
Anthony Brown & group therAPy Earn 3 Billboard Music Award Nominations

Indianapolis, IN: Tyscot Records, musical royalty in the world of black gospel music and the globe’s oldest existing African-American gospel music label, is celebrating its 40th year of sacred sonic sovereignty with a string of Billboard Magazine chart victories. Last week, Tyscot’s 21-year old princess Bri (Briana Babineaux) debuted at No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Gospel Albums sales chart with her premiere album “Keys To My Heart.” She maintains the top spot on this week’s chart as her radio single “I’ll Be The One” jumps to No. 12 on the Gospel Airplay chart.

Tyscot’s reigning chart queen Casey J rules the airwaves with passionate devotion on the anthem “I’m Yours” (from the album “The Truth”) that holds down the No. 1 spot on Billboard’s Gospel Airplay chart for the fifth consecutive week. The Atlanta-based artist will be featured on the syndicated morning drive radio program “The Donnie McClurkin Show” on April 19th.

Tyscot’s record sales king Anthony Brown & group therAPy are commanding the respect of their musical kingdom as their Grammy® Award nominated radio smash “Worth” (from the album “Everyday Jesus”) spends its 21st non-consecutive week at No. 1 on Billboard’s Gospel Digital sales chart. The dynamic Maryland-based group has also earned three Billboard Music Award nominations in the categories of Top Gospel Artist, Top Gospel Album and Top Gospel Song.

The gospel music categories were added to this year’s list of nominations for the first time. Billboard Music Awards finalists are based on key fan interactions with music, including album and digital songs sales, radio airplay, streaming, touring and social interactions on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, Spotify and other popular online destinations for music. These measurements are tracked year-round by Billboard and its data partners, including Nielsen Music and Next Big Sound. The awards are based on the reporting period of tracking dates March 23, 2015 through March 17, 2016 and Billboard chart dates April 11, 2015 through April 2, 2016.  Since 1940, the Billboard charts have been the go-to guide for ranking the popularity of songs and albums, and are the ultimate measure of a musician’s success. Ludacris and Ciara will host the 2016 Billboard Music Awards at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on May 22.

On April 29th, Tyscot will release “Feel Good! 40 Years of Life Changing Music,” a fifteen-track compilation featuring some of the label’s top acts past and present, in celebration of the historic recording firm’s 40th anniversary.
